Express Premium Banner William and Kate tipped for more responsibility due to 'unique position' to boost monarchy

Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, are expected to take on more responsibilities within the monarchy due to their unique position and popularity, which can help boost the royal family's profile. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes that the couple will likely increase their workload, thanks to their widespread appeal. Currently patrons of over 50 charities, the couple also run their own initiatives. William launched the Homewards project, aiming to end homelessness, while Kate's Shaping Us project raises awareness about early childhood development.

Gert’s Royals website, a comprehensive source of royal information, indicates that the couple has participated in 40 joint engagements this year, a number similar to their engagements in 2019. With their children growing older, there is speculation about whether they will take on more duties. Mr. Fitzwilliams suggests that given their unique cachet, they might indeed increase their engagements.

The expert also notes that after the passing of the Queen and with other members like the Sussexes and Prince Andrew stepping back from royal duties, there will likely be a review of royal patronages, leading to a reduction in engagements. Despite this, William and Kate's ability to enhance the profile of the causes they support remains significant. Their individual projects, such as William's Earthshot Prize for environmental initiatives and homelessness campaigns, and Kate's Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, further showcase their dedication to impactful work.
