Kremlin denies state funding of PMC "Wagner"

The private military company (PMC) "Wagner," which was reportedly founded by businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, who allegedly died in a plane crash in the Tver region, did not receive any state funding, according to Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Russian presidency. Peskov addressed reporters, stating that there was no state funding for the PMC, regardless of its registration in Belarus.

When questioned about the continuation of state funding after the PMC's registration in Belarus, Peskov clarified, "There was no state funding. It has nothing to do with being in Belarus, these are completely different topics. I cannot answer this question here. Of course, you can turn to the Belarusian authorities, but here I have no information for you now."

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously mentioned in late June that the PMC "Wagner" was financially supported by the state. He stated that the state had fully covered its expenses, with costs totaling tens of billions of rubles from May 2022 to May 2023.

Regarding the future of PMC "Wagner," Peskov indicated that there is no official structure by that name. He clarified, "Let's not forget that there is no such structure, there is no de jure PMC 'Wagner.' There is indeed a group 'Wagner,' and the president has repeatedly said, which has made a great contribution to the course of the special military operation."
